From the families we have worked with
Margaret W.
British national, Chiang Mai
"We came to Bua Counsel after another adviser had been handling our adoption for nearly a year without much visible progress. The intake conversation here was thorough — they asked questions the previous firm never did. The process moved more clearly from that point, and we knew what was happening at each stage."

Prasong T.
Thai national, Chiang Mai
"My wife and I were separating after many years. The property situation was not simple — we had a house, a business share, and some accounts to work through. The process here was structured rather than confrontational. We reached an agreement on everything without going to court, which I think neither of us expected."
Property Division Counsel · March 2025
Sophie H.
Australian-Thai family, Chiang Mai
"We have been with Bua Counsel on the long-term engagement for about two years now. It was our succession arrangements that brought us to them — my husband and I have property in two countries and the question of how it should be handled was something we kept putting off. Having a legal review twice a year has been genuinely useful."

Ravi K.
Indian national, Chiang Mai
"Our international adoption involved coordination between Thai authorities and officials in another country. I had read that this kind of matter could take years. Bua Counsel was straightforward with us about the timeline from the start, which I respected, and they stayed on top of the paperwork so that delays that did occur were not on our end."
Adoption Procedure Counsel · February 2025
Nattaya K.
Thai national, Chiang Mai
"I came in not knowing much about the property division process. The adviser explained the relevant provisions clearly, without making me feel I should already know them. The written record of our initial meeting was helpful — it gave me something to refer to between appointments. The process took a few months but proceeded without unexpected steps."
Property Division Counsel · January 2025
James L.
Canadian national, Chiang Mai
"We engaged Bua Counsel for long-term family counsel after a recommendation from a friend. Our situation involves property in Thailand and Canada, and the question of how we structure things for our children over the long term is not simple. The regular reviews have been valuable — they catch things we would not have thought to raise ourselves."

Adoption Procedure · Cross-Border
The Situation
A couple resident in Chiang Mai — one Thai national, one European — sought to adopt a child within Thailand. The cross-border nationality element meant that Thai domestic procedures needed to be coordinated with the requirements of the non-Thai partner's home country.
Our Approach
We began with a detailed intake that identified which sets of authorities needed to be involved and in what sequence. Documentation was prepared for both Thai and foreign requirements simultaneously where possible, which reduced the overall time spent waiting on sequential submissions.
The Outcome
The adoption was formalised within approximately fourteen months. The couple noted that knowing which step was next and what would trigger the following stage reduced uncertainty considerably over a long process.
"We had been warned it could take much longer. Knowing what was happening at each point made the wait manageable."
Property Division · Jointly Held Business
The Situation
A couple separating after fifteen years together held property jointly — a house registered under both names, a vehicle, shared savings accounts, and a stake in a small business that one party had established during the marriage.
Our Approach
We prepared a written inventory of all jointly held assets and opened a structured discussion about the business stake specifically — which required valuation input before the division conversation could proceed meaningfully. We identified the points of agreement first, then worked through the contested items.
The Outcome
The couple reached agreement on all items without court proceedings. The business stake was bought out by one party at an agreed valuation. Division documentation was registered within three months of the initial engagement.
"I expected this to be adversarial. The process here felt structured rather than combative."
Long-Term Counsel · Succession Planning
The Situation
A family of mixed nationality, resident in Chiang Mai, held property in Thailand and two other countries. Their adult children were spread across different jurisdictions. The family had no clear framework for how their estate should be managed or distributed across borders.
Our Approach
We established a long-term engagement and began with a comprehensive review of the family's legal position across each relevant jurisdiction's requirements. The reviews at six-month intervals have since tracked changes in the family's circumstances and adjustments to succession planning accordingly.
Three Years On
The family now has a documented succession framework that has been reviewed and updated multiple times. Legal questions that arose in the interim — including a property transaction — were handled within the engagement rather than requiring a new instruction.
"We finally feel like we have clarity about what happens in different scenarios. That clarity is what we were looking for."
